There’s now another officially-announced candidate for Illinois Governor.
It’s Christopher Kennedy, a former University of Illinois Board of Trustees president and Chicago-based businessman, and he made the announcement on YouTube.
“I believe that we can restore the American dream to the people of Illinois in a single generation,” says Kennedy. “I’ve seen so many different vantage points, the potential the state, and then I see the failing of the Government.”
Kennedy says he doesn’t want incremental change in state government, he wants fundamental change, and says every life experience he’s had has prepared him for the job, as has his family’s political history.
“The Kennedys were always Democrats, and the Skakels were always Republicans. They’ve embraced the notion that we are all in this together,” says Kennedy. “Our country is the land of opportunity. That’s the country I want for my kids. I want them to be thinking about the future, open to new ideas. We need change…I’m running for Governor because this state is heading in the wrong direction.”
He’s the second Democrat to officially announce a run, and one that the state GOP has already decried as a “Mike Madigan-First Politician” — and immediately launched a website against him. Chicago aldermen Amaya Pawar is the first Democrat to confirm a run, and several others are said to be considering runs, including local State Senator Andy Manar.
