Ben U Student Airs Concerns Following Private Forum

The questions surrounding Benedictine University’s decision to cancel undergraduate programs at its Springfield campus continue.

WTAX was removed from a forum held for parents and students Thursday, but student Brok Whiteman told us some questions were answered — while others weren’t, including, who made the decision?

“He beat around the bush as much as he could,” Whiteman said. “We weren’t given any names, any professions, anything like that. He just said they were a select group of higher education people.”

The university has worked out various arrangements with other area schools, such as Robert Morris University, Lincoln Land Community College and Millikin University among others to lend extra help to those who are displaced. RMU is hosting a transfer fair on Benedictine’s campus on November 11.

That’s little consolation to Whiteman, who has more than 100 credit hours under his belt and was scheduled to graduate in January 2016 — one semester after Benedictine’s undergraduate programs will end.

The school cancelled a planned interview with Benedictine President Michael Bromberg after a WTAX reporter showed up to the Angela Hall forum.
