Woman Charged With Stepfather’s Murder

Christina Mathews/Sangamon Co. Sheriffs Dept.

Springfield Police say a grand jury has indicted a local woman who is alleged to have committed a beating on her stepfather, eventually causing his death.

Police say 47-year-old Christina Mathews is now charged with three-counts of First-Degree Murder, after originally being picked up December 8th on Aggravated Battery counts.

Police say a 66-year-old male whose name was not released was taken to Memorial Medical Center December 6th with what was described as a life-threatening head injury following a fall at his home in the 1800 block of East Pine Street.

Family members believe Mathews beat the victim over money issues, and that the injury wasn’t an accident. The victim died Sunday.

Mathews remains jailed.
