Support for Horse Tracks Passes

Support for Horse Tracks Passes

The Kentucky Derby is often called “the fastest two minutes in sports” and it didn’t take much longer for the Illinois General Assembly to pass, and for the governor to sign into law, a bill extending advanced deposit wagering in Illinois.

The business of depositing money online to bet on the horses pays for the Illinois Racing Board. Had the legislature and governor not acted — on the same day as the State of the State message – Illinois race tracks would have lost dates.

Gambling proponents say the race tracks are an important support of Illinois agriculture.

Next could be slot machines, hopes State Rep.Lou Lang (D-Skokie). “I’m a big supporter, to save the horse racing industry and to save the 40,000 jobs in the horse racing industry.”

HB 11 has passed both chambers and has been signed into law by the governor.
