Stolen Phone Leads to Shooting, Two Charged

A stolen phone led to a shooting and two arrests on Springfield’s north end.

Police say Deandris Wallis, 22, and Kyron Sullivan, 18, both of Springfield, took an iPhone from a man at the Marathon gas station on Peoria Road Monday afternoon. One of the men asked to borrow the victim’s phone, then took off with it.

The victim followed them, apparently talking to police on a different phone. One of the suspects fired one shot which hit the victim’s car on the front passenger side.

Police say Wallis and Sullivan ditched their vehicle in the 1100 block of Patton, but were later found by police leaving a house in the 600 block of West Calhoun. Illinois State Police and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Dept. assisted.

Wallis and Sullivan face a number of charges, one of which is aggravated discharge of a firearm.

All three of those involved, including the victim, were originally in custody while police sorted out what happened.
