Rauner’s Newest Weapon: Quinnochio

Bruce Rauner’s campaign is attacking Gov. Pat Quinn over his call to keep the current income tax rate—using a guy in a costume.

He’s been dubbed “Quinnochio”, and he stood outside Carl Von Linne Elementary School in Chicago during Quinn’s Thursday visit there, holding up a sign reading “I lied about your taxes.” Quinn seem didn’t amused by either the character or Rauner’s ideas on the budget.

“I haven’t had a chance to interact with that person,” Quinn said. “I would say this, though: that anybody who proclaims themselves to be an advocate of education excellence but wants to starve our schools and cut their budget by 20 percent, that doesn’t add up.”

One of the groups that had supported Quinn’s new education proposals was the Ounce of Prevention Fund, whose president is Diana Rauner, Bruce’s wife.

The Rauner campaign has countered Quinn’s education proposals by claiming that funding for elementary and secondary schools has been cut by $600 million during Quinn’s time in the governor’s office.
