Quinn: My Budget Cuts Aren’t “Minor”

Gov. Pat Quinn doesn’t like the cuts he made to the state’s budget being called “minor.”

While Quinn has criticized the budget he signed this week as incomplete, he’s touting the changes he made through his line item veto powers. Those include eliminating $250 million for additional renovations to the state Capitol, which Quinn feels is a significant cut.

“That’s your opinion on the minor. I don’t think most everybody feels that way,” Quinn says. “And a budget is something you work on 365 days a year, not just one day.”

Quinn also pointed to cuts he directed state agencies to make elsewhere, including selling half of the state’s fleet of airplanes, and reducing the number of paid parking spaces for state employees who work in Chicago.
