llinois is making the case for two-wheeling.
The governor’s office and the Illinois Department of Transportation have unveiled a Bike Transportation Plan. It’s to improve conditions for those who bike.
Ed Barsotti, executive director of the League of Illinois Bicyclists, says that means not just infrastructure, but safety and, he says, “better education of not just cyclists but motorists about how to exist with each other on the roadways, and towns being more bicycle-friendly, allowing people to get from Point A to Point B by bike.”
The League of American Bicyclists rates Illinois ninth for bicycle friendliness, but of the eight cities earning the “bicycle friendly” designation from that group, only two of them — Champaign and Urbana — are Downstate. The others are Batavia, Chicago, Elmhurst, Evanston, Naperville, and Schaumburg.
