IDOT announces road work stoppage due to budget impasse.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced it will stop all construction work throughout the state on June 30, the last day of the fiscal year.

The shutdown will affect not only road projects but rail and aeronautic plans as well.

A report from the Illinois Economic Policy Institute suggests that the stoppage could result in a loss of 2.2 billion dollars in economic activity, cost the state 23,000 jobs and cost Illinois taxpayers 270 million over the next year.
