The DIRT team is being credited in large part for a drop in crime county-wide.

Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell says the burglary and theft rates showed the biggest decline in 2013.

“The reinstitution of the DIRT team certainly had an impact on crime in Sangamon County.  You have to remember that people who break into houses and steal personal items will try to resell those to try to have drug money.  We thinks these drugs are tied to many crimes” says Camble..

Campbell also credits a strong working relationship with area law enforcement agencies.

The report doesn’t not include the city of Springfield or other towns who have their own police departments.
