Springfield alderman approved J. Todd Greenburg as the top lawyer for the city.  Greenburg had served as corporation counsel for the city of Bloomington for more than two decades before a rift with that city’s mayor.

Greenburg says his number one priority is to more familiarize himself with the city’s legal landscape.

“I’m going to start spending a lot of time with my staff.  I told the committee about a month ago that I like to have people cross-trained, to substitute in case there is illness” Greenburg told reporters after the 6-2 vote Tuesday night.

Aldermen Frank Edwards and Sam Cahnman voted “no” on the measure.  Alderwoman Doris Turner voted “present” and Alderwoman Gail Simpson left the council meeting before the vote was taken.

Greenburg begins work Wednesday.  Currently a resident of Bloomington, he must move to Springfield in the next year.
